It might be time to take down the Mona Lisa and move it somewhere else, says The New York Times.
In 2018, about 10 million people visited the Louvre Museum in Paris. According to museum research, 80% of visitors came to view the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. However, polled British tourists say the painting was the “Most Disappointing Attraction.”
It only stands at two-and-a-half feet tall, and crowds must move along a TSA-style line that stops 12 feet away from the picture. The painting caused overcrowding over the summer, causing the museum to shut down for a few days.
Some suggest that the masterpiece would be better off if moved to its own venue. That way, other art in the museum could be appreciated and Mona Lisa aficionados would presumably get a better view of the diminutive work.
