Johnny Depp’s production company, Infinitum Nihil, is producing a new, unauthorized musical starring Michael Jackson’s sequined glove, according to Page Six.
Writer Julien Nitzberg came up with the idea of For the Love of a Glove: An Unauthorized Musical Fable About the Life of Michael Jackson, as told by his Glove 17 years ago. Nitzberg had been working on a biopic about Jackson, but got bogged down when there was a disagreement about how to handle the child abuse allegations. “I said, how’s this? Everything MJ has been accused of has actually been caused by his glove, which is actually an alien from outer space [and] feeds on virgin boy blood,” he said. The network didn’t go for it, but the idea never left him.
The musical will be narrated by a singing, talking sequined glove and will feature life-size puppets of the Jackson 5, Donny Osmond, Emmanuel Lewis, Bubbles the Chimp and others. The show will open in Los Angeles on January 25.
