HBO programming chief Casey Bloy revealed Wednesday that the first Game of Thrones spinoff series should premiere sometime in 2022, Consequence of Sound reports.
The show House of Dragons, a prequel to the first series, will focus on the rise and fall of the House Targaryen, and is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood. Martin will co-create the new show with Ryan Condal and director Miguel Sapochnik.
Bloys revealed the news at a conference and told attendees that this show had the advantage of the source material, over another prequel attempt starring Naomi Watts that was not picked up. “So when we looked at House of the Dragon, one of the advantages it had, was it had a text from George R.R. Martin and had the Targaryen history. There was a bit more of a roadmap,” he said.
