On Monday, a 104-year-old Texas woman asked that she not receive gifts but that she’d prefer books that could be donated to children, according to MSN.
The assisted-living facility she lives in is accepting books on her behalf, and have already exceeded their initial goal of 104 books.
The idea makes sense for Davis, who is a longtime member of the Austin Chapter of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators. In fact, since 2013 there has been an annual award for young writers which bears her name. The facility will be collecting books until the end of the month, and then plan to give the books to an elementary school.
