QUEEN: The Second Life of “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Remember the classic opening scene of Wayne’s World fearturing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody?

Propelled by the memorable opening scene in the movie, Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody” broke back into the Top 10 this week in 1992 — 16 years after it rocked the radio the first time.

Star Mike Myers claimed that producer Lorne Michaels suggested he use a Guns n’ Roses song instead — since the band was hot at the time the movie was being shot and matched the target audience. The disagreement was strong enough that Myers threatened to quit the picture if “Bohemian Rhapsody” wasn’t used.

Myers won the battle, the movie was a smash — and Queen, just months after the death of Freddie Mercury, had an unexpected hit.
