PRINCE: Longtime Drummer John Blackwell Jr. Dead at 43
John Blackwell Jr., who played drums for Prince for over a decade, died on Tuesday. He was just 43 and had been under treatment for a brain tumor.

John Blackwell - Prince's Drummer
Blackwell joined Prince’s band The New Power Generation in 2000 after working with Patti LaBelle. He had also backed Justin Timberlake. You can see him in action on Prince’s 2003 Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas DVD.
His career came naturally — John’s namesake father played with such soul legends as The Spinners, Drifters, Mary Wells, J.J. Jackson and Joe Simon. (NY Daily News)
