Disney Is Taking Full Control of Hulu

Disney has taken full operational control of Hulu. CNN reports this takeover came into being on Tuesday when Comcast agreed to sell its ownership stake in Hulu to Disney.

Although the official sale won’t happen for at least five years, Disney is now controlling the streaming service.

Hulu used to be a joint product of several big media companies, including Disney, 21st Century Fox, Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Time Warner, but Hulu has now essentially become a Disney product. Comcast owns approximately one-third of Hulu at present, but is scheduled to sell its interest to Disney in 2024 or thereafter.

With Disney’s takeover, Hulu will eventually lose some of its content, such as from NBC, so the streaming service is working on adding more original content. “Hulu represents the best of television,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger.
